STRATEGIES! is proud to announce the release of its first book:

“Black Women Shaping the World: Across Continents, Across Time.”

 As our world faces multiple crises at this moment, we asked ourselves, how have women acted in past crises. What did they say? What did they do? What we found, inspired this book.

“Black Women Shaping the World: Across Continents, Across Time” looks back at three historical moments in the struggle for black freedom through the lens of the portraits of 10 women activists, symbols of thousands of other women, who by their actions, changed and impacted the course of history during:

·       The struggle for civil liberties and African independence,

·       The fight against apartheid, and

·    The recent movements for human dignity and against police brutality: Black Lives Matter and EndSars.

Some of the women such as Mary Frances Berry or Miriam Makeba are well known.  Others such as the women of UDEFEC or the Feminist Coalition have not been in the limelight.  In each of these 10 stories we learn from women who acted locally, then reached across oceans to other continents and acted globally to impact our world.


This book is a springboard.  It is meant to ignite curiosity in all the ways women have come together and continue to come together to fight for human dignity.

Black Women Shaping the World: Across Continents, Across Time is written by three Cameroonian women. Leaders, professionals, activists, human rights defenders, but most importantly women who act locally and globally, learning from their sisters to impact the world.
